My website will not load properly

There are many reasons your website might not load.

Server IP address could not be found You might receive the following error:

This site can't be reached www.example.com's server IP address could not be found.

• Search Google for example.

ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

This could be caused by the following reasons:

1. You misspelled the domain name. Check you entered the domain name into the address bar correctly.
2. The domain name does not exist, or has expired. To check if it's expired head to our WHOIS tool and enter your domain name without the http://www and click Search.
   1. Check the Status field. If the domain is expired, and the domain is yours, you'll need to visit your domain registrar's website, login and renew the domain.
   2. You can see which registrar the domain is under by looking at the Registrar: field in the WHOIS tool search results.
   3. If you don't have a login to the registrar's website, your domain is probably owned by your website designer, which is not the best situation (it should be owned by you, the website owner, so you can control it).
   4. You'll need to speak to your website designer and ask them to renew the domain for you. Once renewed, ask them to help you transfer the domain into your own domain registrar account - you'll need the domain transfer key.
3. The domain does exist, but the A record is not set.
   1. Visit https://www.whatsmydns.net/ and enter your domain name & click Search.
   2. If an IP address is not returned (4 numbers separated by .), then web browsers have no way to find your website. If this is the case, whoever controls your domain will need to set an A record to match your web host's web server IP address.

401 Error

The 401 Unauthorized error means the page you were trying to access cannot be loaded until you first log in with a valid user ID and password.

If you've just logged in and received the 401 Unauthorized error, it means that the credentials you entered were invalid for some reason.

404 Error

If the webpage you're looking at produces a 404 error, it means the web server was unable to find a webpage to deliver for the URL you're looking at in your web browser.

Perhaps the page's URL has changed? If you're the website owner, you'll need to arrange to have the bad URL redirected to the correct URL. Contact your web designer or web host do to this.

500 Error

A 500 error means there was an internal server error. This means the webpage machinery which produces your website is not functioning properly. If you're a website owner who hired a website designer/developer to build your website you should contact them and ask them to resolve the error.
